There’s nothing better than a family holiday. Quality time together under the warmth of the sun and a break from our usual routine is glorious, and often, it’s exactly what we need.
Of course, one of the best bits about going on holiday is daydreaming about what you’ll get up to. Doubtless your family will love splashing beside the pool and playing on the beach, but sometimes you need one or two activities planned in to make your holiday extra fun. That’s why it’s a good idea to do a little bit of research before you go, Googling ‘what to do on holiday’ in your chosen destination.
Luckily, we have lots of knowledge about the best family activities on offer in locations all over the world. Of course, there are too many ideas for us to list here, so here’s a selection of some of our favourite places with tried and tested activity suggestions your family will love. Theme parks, waterparks, zoos and beaches – it’s all waiting for you!
What to do in Florida
If you’re heading to Florida this year, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing family holiday activities. Not only do you have the likes of Universal Orlando Resort and Walt Disney World Resort to enjoy (and it’s highly recommended you try at least one of them – there are many activities for adults as well as children, and the nightlife on offer is fantastic), but there are plenty of other activities to do too.
Book tickets to SeaWorld or the Kennedy Space Center if you have a budding scientist on your hands, or check out LEGOLAND if you really want your children to have the holiday of a lifetime: it’s a theme park and waterpark in one with over 50 rides and attractions.
What to do in France
France is home to some truly picturesque beaches, with stretches of shoreline in Normandy and Brittany delighting families everywhere. And, there are plenty of family holiday activities to be enjoyed in central France too, especially if you’re heading to Paris.
Skip the tours of the Eiffel Tower or the Louvre if you have little ones with you, snapping up tickets for Vincennes Zoo and Aquaboulevard instead. Just outside of Paris you’ll find the Asterix Park (a theme park based on The Adventures of Asterix comics, popular with French children and visitors alike), as well as the France Miniature in Élancourt – a model park that little ones will love to explore.
What to do in Spain
Spain is popular with families, and with miles of fantastic beaches and hundreds of entertainment options, it’s easy to see why. Whether you’re wondering what to do in Tenerife, Malaga or somewhere else, you’ll have a choice of activities such as wildlife parks, museums with interactive exhibits, theme parks and castles. You can book hotels with waterparks in Spain (a great idea if you can’t seem to get your kids out of the pool), and if your family is particularly sporty, the weather conditions and geography of the Canary Islands (Lanzarote and Fuerteventura in particular) are perfect for surfing, hiking and cycling.
What to do in New York
Finally, New York is a destination that’s bursting at the seams with things for families to do. As well as must-see attractions such as the Empire State Building, you can check out the model boat pond and burn off some energy in the Hecksher Playground, book tickets for half-day pizza tasting bus tours, or spend the day getting to know the animals at the Bronx Zoo.
Disney on Broadway is too good to miss, and your children are bound to be fascinated by the Children’s Museum of Manhattan with exhibitions that explore the way children live in other lands. It’s a good idea to book tickets for attractions and tours in New York ahead of visiting if you want to get the best deals, but you’ll find plenty to do in New York if you’d prefer to experience it without a plan.
What to do in Dubai
When it comes to family holidays, Dubai may not immediately spring to mind – but you’d be pleasantly surprised at all this modern city has to offer. For example, for a wild day out, Dubai Parks & Resort offers a sprawling haven of rides, attractions and restaurants. The LEGOLAND park situated within the resort is a particular hit with families, with over 20 million Lego bricks at your disposal to play with in the park’s special interactive centre.
